What Is This Blog For?
You might have noticed this, but our world is changing rapidly. For all the confusion and debate over the new normal, the fact is we are already living in one. Change is the norm, a war in Eastern Europe is upending global politics, the US is in chirpy waters politically and culturally, and with the rise of China and changes in Hong Kong, nobody knows what’s coming up next!
Nuance is in short supply these days, and context can often be extrapolated and edited to fit narratives. In this Substack page curated and written by a HKU Journalism student, I want to change that!
So please help yourself to a glass of sanity and rational discussion and debate over the world’s most pressing issues, and some topics that have my attention.

Memeing The World: Starting from my 18th birthday, this section is a weekly review of the news of the crazy times we call the modern world. Each edition features the headline stories of the week as well as the side stories you should pay attention to. Look out for other memeified news without context but with added humorous substance toward political concepts! This is updated weekly and all memes are sourced from the Disney animation show Hailey’s On It and Paramount + show Star Trek Lower Decks which I am currently hooked on and can find many correlations to the modern political world without the obnoxious faces!
Quizzing The News: Originating from news quizzes as part of the Bachelor of Journalism exams at HKU, is a weekly pop quiz on the big news of the week. From missing headlines to spotting the odd one out, each week includes answers with witty and humorous comebacks. It’s an interactive way to test your brain’s news knowhow!
