Summer 2024 Internship Tales (Week 2)
Moved to a different role, still got some stuff done!
This week, it was a surprise when I was suddenly transferred from the local news department to the marketing department. For reasons untold, the move was made with immediate effect, and it was better suited for me given the workload and the time it took for my work to get responded to by my supervisors.
My first assignment was translating this advertorial which was later printed on Tuesday’s newspaper about the 2024 Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Races organized by the Hong Kong Tourism Board and the Hong Kong China Dragon Boat Association.
Then, it was time to translate multiple editorial articles from Sing Tao’s Smart Parents magazine. Some were already published in light of Sunday’s Father’s Day, including this piece about the imperfect but loving dad.
I also took part by writing an editorial-ish type article about the “modern father” and the scientific aspects of fatherhood, which turned out to be more important in a child’s lifestyle than previously thought.
Compared to the rigid “traditional father” stereotype, there are many traits the “modern father” has adopted. Fathers have become more active parents in daily lives, with a rising trend of co-equal parenting that creates a team between the modern mom and dad. Fathers have also learned the importance of work-life balance and spending more time with their family and kids by being work-at-home dads. To children, fathers have forged stronger emotional connections with their children and have become positive role models by defying traditional stereotypes.
So on Father’s Day this Sunday, I wholeheartedly wish for all fathers to have a happy holiday, regardless if it is a meal with loved ones or a day out hiking. To all dads, you are doing great, and appreciate yourselves a little more!
Here’s to Week 3, which I might also be writing articles for children!
